What You Can Expect to Make as a Graphic Designer
The amount of money that you can make as a graphic designer varies. Many different factors will determine your paycheck.
One of the most important factors affecting how much you will earn is demand. If the skill can provide is in high demand then you know it is lucrative. It is important that you keep up with new technology in order to determine if you will be able to make money in this field.
Another factor besides demand is talent. Of course you need to be able to product a product that clients or employers want.
However, it is more than that. You need to be able to convince others of why that particular design you created will work for a company, product, movie, commercial, website, etc.
Beyond demand and talent, you also need to have determination. You need to not give up until you are employed in the field that you enjoy. This may mean making some sacrifices at first been in the end you will be happy you decided to strive for success.
Flexibility is another factor that will determine how much you will make. It does not mean you need to accept design jobs that are of a conflict o interest to you. It also does not mean that you will have to take down that traveling job even though you hate the thought of being home too much.
However, a little flexibility can help you earn more revenue. For instance, perhaps you are able to take on smaller projects that large companies would never take the time to do. Likewise, maybe you are able to work for a little less of a rate if the client is offering you bulk work.
You have the right to decide which job or projects you will take on. However, remember not to be too choosy either. Remember why you are doing this, however, and do not burn your bridges because you want your clients to refer you to other people.
Another factor that will determine how much money you make as a graphic designer is your experience. If you have been at this for several years by now chances are you have perfected your craft far more than someone who has only been in it for a few years.
That experience that you have is very valuable. On the other hand, make sure you do not take your experience for granted, because you always need to be willing to learn and willing to try new projects.
Otherwise, those who come after you could very easily pass you up in experience level and ability. That leads to another point and that is if you don’t use the talent you have for awhile you could lose it.
Therefore, even during slow economic times or even if you need to take a temporary job right out of college do not forget about your craft. Remember to take the time to keep learning every during that period in your life when you think it may be impossible to find a job.
Speaking of using your talent and gaining experience, any avenue you can find to implement your skills is valuable. For instance, some people have developed their design skills creating fliers, free ad logos for companies, and so on.
Some of them have even volunteered to work on advertising campaigns for non-profit groups free of charge. This experience, even if it is just temporary will help add items to your portfolio.
It will also help you gain the confidence that you are great at what you do and that you are going to make it. If you believe in yourself you could make a salary ranging between $20,000 a year to $60,000 a year. Who knows? You could even make more than that.
